Flooring and Windows for a aging friendly home
Today let’s continue our discussion about home design suitable for aging and talk a about flooring and windows.

Whatever flooring you choose for your house, make sure that it is a smooth, non-glare and slip-resistant surface. If you decide to go for carpeting, use low-density carpeting with firm pad. It will also be a good idea to use color and texture contrast to indicate change in surface levels. This will be helpful if someone is suffering from bad vision or depth perception issues. If you decide to not use wall to wall carpeting, fasten down area rugs and floor runners, and remove any that are not necessary. They just increase the chance for a slip if they move easily.

For windows, go with low-maintenance exterior and interior finishes. Having plenty of windows is not only good for natural light, it also brightens the mood of any person who is not able to go out much. Use easy-to-operate hardware.

I really hope that these design tips help you in increase the quality of life in your golden years.

Until next time!
