Dr. MacIvor’s medical career has been punctuated by other endeavors, including a tour of duty as medical officer on a nuclear submarine shortly after passing his board examinations in OB-Gyn. Following a long stint in private practice gathering the background for this article, he served another residency in clinical pathology at Virginia Commonwealth University, and is currently completing a fellowship in transfusion medicine at the Institute for Transfusion Medicine and the University of Pittsburgh.
